Pennsylvania American Water Expands Northeast Footprint With New Acquisition

Source: PRNewswire

Hershey, PA -- American Water announced today that its subsidiary, Pennsylvania American Water, has acquired the water utility assets of Three Lane Utilities, Inc. in Westfall Township, Pike County. The purchase price is approximately $1 million.

The newly acquired system provides drinking water to approximately 400 people and commercial establishments in and around the Milford Landing development. Pennsylvania American Water already provides water and wastewater services to nearly 6,200 people in Lehman and Delaware townships, Pike County, and neighboring Monroe County.

The transaction follows the company's May 30 acquisition of the Mountain Top Estates system, which provides drinking water to approximately 180 people in Middle Smithfield Township, Monroe County. In addition, Pennsylvania American Water acquired the Claysville-Donegal Joint Municipal Authority water and wastewater systems in Washington County on July 31, marking the company's first wastewater acquisition in western Pennsylvania.

"As Pennsylvania's largest regulated provider of water and wastewater services, we continue to seek acquisition opportunities that enable us to achieve economies of scale while broadening our customer base in the northeast and across the state," said Pennsylvania American Water President Kathy L. Pape. "Consolidation and regionalization of water systems are especially important for communities looking for sustainable water quality and capacity solutions."

Across northeast Pennsylvania, the company provides water and wastewater service to more than 500,000 people in the cities of Scranton and Wilkes-Barre and portions of Luzerne, Lackawanna, Pike, Monroe, Wayne, Susquehanna, Northampton, Columbia, Northumberland, and Schuylkill counties.

Pennsylvania American Water is the largest investor-owned water utility in the state, providing high-quality and reliable water and/or wastewater services to more than 2.1 million people. In addition to its subsidiaries' regulated operations, American Water provides operation and maintenance services to an additional 112,000 people in Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania American Water is a wholly owned subsidiary of American Water (NYSE: AWK). Founded in 1886, American Water is the largest investor-owned U.S. water and wastewater utility company. With headquarters in Voorhees, N.J., the company employs nearly 7,000 dedicated professionals who provide drinking water, wastewater and other related services to approximately 15.6 million people in 32 states and Ontario, Canada.
